Mrs. Lyda Darter, 81, of 101 Wallace Avenue, died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday in Culver Hospital after a brief illness. She had been hospitalized two days. Born Aug 12, 1880 near New Market, she was a daughter of Henry H. and Savilla Kelsey Swindler (sic). She married John J. Darter in 1923. They were married in Crawfordsville. Mr. Darter died in 1949. Mrs. Darter attended school at New Market and Lane Business College at Indianapolis. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and Alice Ross Class of the church. She also was a member of the Athens Chapter of OES Daughters of American Revolution and was a charter member of the Coterie Club. Surviving are a brother, Dr. Damon C. Schwindler(sic)  of Indianapolis; two nieces, Mrs. Buford Friend of New Market and Mrs. Harry Block of Indianapolis; and four nephews, William A. Schwindler of Nicholasville, Ky; Robert H. Schwindler of Arcadia, Calif and Paul & David Schwindler both of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 Saturday at Bright Funeral Home here with Rev. Hilton Whitaker officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Friday. - kbz
